ICSA Labs Certifies Mako 6500 in SMB Firewall Category

Mako 6500 Network Appliance

AUCKLAND, New Zealand – 14 July 2011 – Mako Networks, a cloud-based network management company specialising in solutions for small businesses and branch offices, has received certification from ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon, for its latest Mako 6500 network appliance. The certification in the SMB Network Firewall category recognises the Mako 6500 as meeting a high firewall security standard, joining an elite group of technology industry heavyweights celebrating such an achievement.

The recognition from ICSA Labs comes after a comprehensive battery of tests performed on a Mako 6500 unit sent for evaluation, checking for overall security, user administration and resilience against intrusion attempts. Sample criteria included checking firewall rules, operation and management, resistance to denial of service attacks, user logging and management.

Customers can be assured of high-calibre security when choosing Mako 6500 network appliances, with an international third-party verifying its security capabilities.

Says Murray Knox, Research & Development Director for Mako Networks: “ICSA Labs certification is a significant achievement. We’ve known that our products are among the best in the world, but the independent certification from ICSA Labs is a welcome testament to the focus and effort that went into designing an easy-to-use product without compromising security.”

Mako Networks appliances allow small businesses and branch offices to quickly and easily deploy firewalls to protect their computer networks, but also come equipped with a variety of features to assist in better management of their network assets. Tools such as Mako Guardian, which monitors Internet access and usage, and the ability to connect locations via virtual private network, mean that business owners can get the most out of their IT investments without a high degree of technical expertise.

“Over the past several years as a participant in the ICSA Labs Firewall Certification Program, Mako Networks has regularly demonstrated its commitment to enhancing its product,” said Brian Monkman, perimeter security programs manager, ICSA Labs.  “Mako Networks has worked tirelessly to meet our increasingly stringent security certification requirements and earning the latest certification is evidence of that.”

Mako Networks 6500 appliances also assist companies to comply with a stringent set of security protocols developed by the credit card companies known as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS). Mako is the first and only network management company in the world to be PCI DSS-certified.
